This is your last chance to...
GO SEE NOW!
The producers have announced that Jane Eyre will close Sunday, June 10.
Do you want to express your appreciation to the cast?
Over mountains, over oceans,
My hope of heaven lies
Deep in my secret soul,
Oh, let me sail away
So why should I go see it, you ask? Well, I'll tell you...
It's one of the most beautiful love stories ever written.
It's the story of a strong, independent, compassionate woman.
It's the most intelligent piece of theater on Broadway today.
It brings literature to life with tenderness and tears that ultimately make it a theatrical triumph!
Its stars, Marla Schaffel and James Barbour, are two of the most incredible performers Broadway has ever seen. They're great actors, and they have voices to die for (see sound clips below). Marla has won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical and the Drama Desk Award for Best Actress in a Musical and has been nominated for the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.
It boasts a remarkable supporting cast: Mary Stout (Me and My Girl, A Christmas Carol, Honk!, Aladdin, Remember WENN) as Mrs. Fairfax, Stephen R. Buntrock (Martin Guerre, Titanic, Les Miserables) as St. John, Elizabeth DeGrazia (The Phantom of the Opera) as Blanche Ingram, Bill Nolte (Cats, The Secret Garden, 1776) as Richard Mason, and Marguerite MacIntyre (City of Angels, Annie Warbucks, No Way to Treat a Lady) as Bertha Mason.
The child actors are also amazingly talented. Both Lisa Musser (Young Jane) and Andrea Bowen (Adele) have appeared on Broadway as Young Cosette in Les Miserables and performed in the national tour of The Sound of Music.
The staging and costumes are gorgeous. Check out video footage here.
It received five Tony nominations: Best Musical, Best Actress (Marla Schaffel), Best Score, Best Book, and Best Lighting.
It's co-directed and co-written (book and some lyrics) by John Caird, who also directed Les Miserables and Nicholas Nickleby.
The set, designed by John Napier (who also designed the sets for Cats, Sunset Boulevard, Starlight Express, and Les Miserables), is like no other in the history of Broadway. It uses an overhead carousel to deliver set pieces (windows, paintings, etc.) from above! The set design also utilizes breathtaking projections to create images of English moors, spooky attics, and the like. Read an article about the revolutionary set design here.
Alanis Morissette likes it! (No joke!)
You can buy orchestra tickets for $49.50! (Click here for details; may require registration.)
The music, by Paul Gordon, is beautiful and inspiring. Listen for yourself:

Heaven take me away!
For I long for my liberty,
For sweet liberty I pray.
Inside your precious eyes.
I cry his tears.
I weather his angry voice.
I feel his fears.
And make this vow
That what my heart wants
I will not allow,
For as sirens call the sailors,
She calls me now.
